The big Thanksgiving Day swap

This past week, my roommate and I headed back to good old Dallas to visit family and friends for Thanksgiving. My friend Megan and I planned to swap some vintage things that we had sitting around.
I was more than happy to take this 50's shadow box off of her hands:
Believe it or not, we found this shadow box in her attic a year or so ago! Who knows how long it had been there, but it was buried in a layer of insulation. Megan started re-doing it, but hasn't had the time to finish, so I'm going to take it over! I just have to figure out how I am going to restore it. I love this thing. In return, I gave Megan my set of Mar Crest Swiss Alpine dishes:
A good thing about having vintage loving friends is being able to pickup things for each other, and swap. Megan is a great friend, and estate sale companion. I can't wait to move back to North Dallas in a year so we can start sale-ing again.
Also over the trip, one of our friends returned a mid century lamp she borrowed a few years ago. I had forgotten how big this lamp is:

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving 2012!

Vintage Pyrex and modern food

In my attempt to greatly reduce any animal meats that I eat, I decided to diverge from the traditional Thanksgiving turkey or ham this year. So, I went to the health food store and bought a Tofurkey and cooked it up in a good old large Pyrex casserole dish. So, what is this Tofurkey thing? Its a vegan tofu alternative to turkey, and I must say it was gooooood. My roommate and I ate the whole thing. It was strange getting prepped to eat a tofu turkey, but it didn't hurt that it was in pyrex. Happy Thanksgiving!

... Time goes by...

For the past year, the roommate and I have been living in West Texas while he gets his thesis done. You would think in a small town there would be great estate and garage sales.... WELLLL... it seems everyone now-a-days looks on ebay to see what vintage stuff sells for. Anything that is of vintage goodness is priced pretty high. Very discouraging. Soon, we will be back in the Dallas area, living it up in a vintage house again. I am counting the days. Until then, I am enjoying my previous collected vintage wonders, and enjoying the great 1950s items that friends bring when they come to visit. I can't wait to get collecting again... and get this blog back in shape...
Until then, I read everyone's blogs, enjoying everything that is going on with y'all. Mick and Mary Deluxe have come a long way! I'm watching the clock... will be back soon!
